Job Summary

 Verge Technologies is seeking a new Solution Designer  to join our team based out of our Dartmouth, NS office with the primary focus on Security, Life-Safety, and Structured Cabling technical sales.

 The Solutions Designer serves as a technical sales consultant to the Account Executive team and collaborates with Senior Management on overall company offering from the perspective of their technical specialty. The Solutions Designer supports the sales cycle process by participating in customer meetings, site surveys, assisting with client needs analysis, generating functional system designs/descriptions/diagrams and creating equipment and labour proposals. There is considerable client contact as well as interdepartmental collaboration required which makes communication skills imperative for this position. The Solution Designer is expected to obtain and maintain relevant industry and manufacturer certifications while continuing as the technical authority on all designed projects during implementation stages.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Account Executive team with pre-sales customer meetings, needs analysis & site surveys as needed

  • Participate in project meetings with clients, contractors and other stakeholders

  • Translate customer requirements into functional system designs

  • Develop solution riser diagrams, wiring and functional drawings, calculations and documentation to support system designs (Bluebeam, VISIO, CAD, etc.)

  • Review pre-construction design and documentation

  • Identify all cabling and miscellaneous material needs on each project

  • Provide material and labor estimates for projects

  • Provide engineering support to project installation team when needed

  • Obtain project sign-off from customers as needed

  • Customer liaison for technical inquires

  • Meeting with manufacturers’ representatives, helping to define our product offerings

  • Travel to various job sites is required

  • Build and maintain relationships with solution manufacturers

  • Mentoring less experienced staff members in areas of expertise

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure standard estimating practices take place through company systems (D-Tools)

  • Any and all other duties assigned by management

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in estimating / technical sales within one of Security, Life-Safety, ProAV, and /or Communication Cabling offerings

  • Familiarity and experience in selling into all levels of government

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed throughout the province

  • Be able to pass a criminal record check

  • Post secondary education considered an asset

  • CTS, RCDD, PSP, Etc certifications (or another industry-appropriate accreditation) considered an asset
