Cable Technician - Halifax

Job Summary 

Verge Technologies has grown into a premier contractor and integrator for businesses and government departments across the Maritime provinces for Communications Cabling, Security & Life-Safety and Pro Audio-Visual projects.

We are currently seeking an experienced Cable Technician to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a permanent, full-time position. The technician will be involved in all facets of installing and maintaining communication and low-voltage cabling infrastructure (fibre & copper) throughout commercial, enterprise, industrial, manufacturing, government, healthcare and multi dwelling unit (MDU) buildings in new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Maintain cable systems by installing, repairing and upgrading cable infrastructure

  • Run new cabling in new or existing buildings

  • Responsible for the termination and testing of new cabling

  • Perform major and minor preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues

  • Set up new telecommunications frames and equipment enclosures

  • Understand, adhere to and promote environmental, health & safety practices

  • Assist co-workers with installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Ability to test, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues

  • Ability to manage workload to ensure jobs are completed on time and budget

  • Job planning skills according to desired timelines, including the dissection of blueprints

  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces or isolation

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to - carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment and/or tooling.

  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized

  • Basic computer processing skills to submit time sheets and progress reports

Position Requirements 

  • Preference will be given to those with fibre optic splicing experience

  • Supervisory or team lead experience is considered an asset

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required

  • Willingness to travel would be beneficial as travel options may arise for future projects

  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
